INTRODUCTION
The Loma Linda University School of Public Health’s was contracted by the California Conference for Directors of Environmental Health (CCDEH), in collaboration with the California Association of Communicable Disease Controllers (CACDC),to summarize the evidence-based recommendations for exclusion and clearance for persons working in sensitive occupations or situations (SOS) that have been diagnosed with, or exposed to, select gastrointestinal infections. These persons include, but are not limited to: food handlers, including field crop workers, cooks and servers, workers who have direct contact with children; and healthcare workers and others with direct contact with the elderly, immunosuppressed, hospitalized patients and residents of other institutionalized settings. This project period was August 2007 through mid-October 2007.
