The Marin County Human Resources Department and the Community Development Agency are announcing a recruitment for the position of Senior Environmental Health Specialist. The Senior Environmental Health Specialist (SEHS) acts as the lead and the subject matter expert in the assigned environmental program area(s). The SEHS in the Food Plan Check Program serves as a specialist in consumer protection with primary responsibilities that include conducting plan reviews of food establishments for compliance with applicable local, state and federal codes. The SEHS for Land Use programs serves as a specialist on septic systems, graywater systems, well construction and small water systems. The SEHS will conduct inspections; investigate complaints; represent the County to the community, business owners and others; provide customer service and public information; assist EHS management in the interpretation of laws and regulations regarding standards; assist in the development of policies and procedures; and make recommendations regarding program improvements. The Senior Environmental Health Specialist works frequently with local and state officials in gaining compliance within the jurisdiction.
ABOUT YOU: The highly qualified candidate possesses strong knowledge/experience in the area of consumer protection, land use or other environmental health programs and a graduate degree in Public Health, Health Science, Business Administration, Public Administration or a related field. In addition, they are customer-focused, possessing superior conflict resolution and communication skills (both oral and written). The highly qualified candidate is organized, can effectively utilize technology for record keeping and conducting research, and works effectively with other agencies. This individual exhibits a passion for environmental health services and a strong commitment to public health. Experience leading a program and/or staff is a plus.
We recognize your time is valuable, so please do not apply if you do not have at least the following required Minimum Qualifications: Two (2) years of full-time environmental health experience performing duties equivalent to a Registered Environmental Health Specialist which demonstrates possession of the listed knowledge and abilities. One (1) year of experience working in the Environmental Health and Safety field in California is required. A graduate degree from an accredited college or university with a major in Public Health, Health Science, Business Administration, Public Administration or a related field is highly desirable.
Required Certificates and Licenses: Possession of a valid Certificate of Registration as an Environmental Health Specialist issued by the California State Department of Public Health.
The eligible list established from this recruitment will be used to fill the current vacancy and any future vacancies for open, fixed-term, full-time or part-time positions that may occur in this assignment while the list remains active. Eligible lists remain active for a minimum of six (6) months.
