Supervising Environmental Health Specialist description image

The Public Health Department is recruiting for Supervising Environmental Health Specialists who plan, supervise and coordinate the activities of a group of environmental specialists, as well as technical and clerical personnel engaged in a specific Environmental Health program.

Work Assignment: Applicants must indicate willingness to accept work assignments in all of the following areas: Rancho Cucamonga, Hesperia and San Bernardino in order to be eligible for these positions.
Work Schedule: May be required to work some evenings, weekends and on-call.
Physical: May be required to bend, stoop, kneel, crawl, or hike when necessary during the investigation process.
Travel/License: Travel throughout the county is required to attend meetings and perform field duties as necessary. Employees will be required to make provision for transportation and may be required to use personal vehicles (mileage reimbursement is available). At the time of hire, a valid California Class C driver license and proof of automobile liability insurance must be produced for the individual providing the transportation.

Minimum Requirements

Certification: Must possess and maintain a valid certificate of registration as a Registered Environmental Health Specialist (REHS) issued by the State of California Department of Public Health (CDPH).
Experience: Three (3) years of experience as a Registered Environmental Health Specialist, which included one (1) year in a lead or supervisory capacity. (Experience as a trainee is not qualifying and should be clearly separated from journey-level experience on the Application and Supplemental Questionnaire.)
Note: A Master's degree in Business/Public Administration and/or Management –or- completion of the San Bernardino County Management Leadership Academy may substitute for up to six (6) months of the required one (1) year of lead or supervisory experience.

There will be a competitive evaluation of qualifications based on a review of the Application and Supplemental Questionnaire.  The most highly qualified candidates, based on the results of the evaluation may be referred to the department for a selection interview.
