The Environmental Health Division of the Public Health Department has an immediate vacancy for the Chief of Environmental Health Services who directs, plans, organizes, and coordinates environmental management and health protection programs. The incumbent in this position will perform a variety of duties including, but not limited to, the following:
 
  • Formulate and recommend policies, procedures and standard practices to ensure the efficient delivery of services.
  • Direct surveillance, program/design control, abatement and enforcement activities in the areas of food, water supply, water recreation, groundwater quality, multi-family housing and institutions, land use, solid, liquid and medical waste, body art and vector control.
  • Analyze, interpret and enforce state and local environmental health laws, to include developing regulations and implementing procedures to eliminate, mitigate and prevent environmental health hazards.

Minimum Requirements

License: Must possess and maintain a current certificate of registration as an Environmental Health Specialist in the State of California. Provide license number and expiration date on the appropriate section of the application.
 
-AND-

Experience:

Option 1: Two (2) years of experience managing environmental and/or public health protection programs within a government, Public Health Department.

-OR-

Option 2:  
Three (3) years of experience managing environment and/or public health protection programs in any other setting.
