About the Position

The Health Agency is recruiting for a Cross Connection Inspector!
The incumbent makes inspection surveys of wells, pipelines and conduits for the prevention, control and elimination of contamination or pollution hazards to water supplies; gives technical direction to property owners, builders, and manufacturers; issues corrective recommendations and reviews the work done to insure conformance with good sanitary practice and compliance with existing Federal, State and local laws, rules and regulations, and water purveyor policies governing such work; acts as a prosecution witness in cases  involving violation of laws affecting the safety and purity of public water supplies; works as a field coordinator between water purveyors and representatives or officials of city, county, state or other agencies on  matters involving cross connection control and other sanitary hazards; performs studies and investigations of water contamination or pollution problems involving public or private water and recycled water distribution systems; maintains a cross connections database, prepares technical reports, piping diagrams and sketches involving problems pertaining to cross connections and testing of backflow prevention devices, and other contamination or pollution investigations.  Ensures County testers maintain appropriate certifications.
Under direction, administers a program of cross connection inspection and control for the purpose of preventing the installation of unprotected connections between the domestic water supply and the sources of water that  would be unsafe for drinking purposes; elimination of existing conditions of possible contamination or pollution hazards to water supplies; and does other related work as required.

The Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will have knowledge of and experience enforcing State Health and Safety code and local ordinances pertaining to cross connection and other health hazard conditions, reduced pressure principles, backflow preventers, double check valve assemblies,  and other approved devices used in the prevention of backflow.  Possesses backflow tester and/or cross connection specialist certifications.

Minimum Qualifications:
A Science based college degree is highly desirable.

Either A: Possess and keep valid a certificate for backflow prevention device testing;

Or B: Two years of plumbing maintenance experience.
