The Marin Community Development Agency are announcing recruitments for Environmental Health Specialists (EHS) I and II. This vacancy may be filled at either the I or the II level. To be considered for both EHS levels, you must apply to both recruitments.

EHS I: Under supervision of a registered Environmental Health Specialist, the EHS I conducts inspections and investigations involving the enforcement and interpretation of Public Health and Environmental Health laws and regulations. Tasks are performed on a trainee basis, under continuing supervision, until the trainee develops the increased skills necessary to qualify for testing and registration as an Environmental Health Specialist with the State of California. Training will occur in all specialties, however, the EHS I will be assigned initially to Consumer Protection. The primary duties will be to work with the EHS Consumer Protection staff to conduct routine inspections of permitted facilities in the food, swimming pool and possibly housing programs. This position requires travel between various County and business-related locations.

EHS II: Independently performs field inspections in all assigned program categories, assists in the performance of complex inspections, investigates complaints, and may be assigned lead responsibility and training for the activities of one or more staff at the trainee level. In addition, the Environmental Health Specialist II provides consultation and educational services to the public to encourage sound sanitary practices.

The Highly Qualified Candidate will be customer-focused, competent utilizing technology for record keeping and conducting research, and committed to facilitating public health. In addition, the ideal candidate will have prior experience conducting inspections and successfully resolving complaints with the public through effective communication (oral and written) and negotiation skills.
